Thalaivar Praises Amithab and Few Birthday snippets..

1.The Spring

Rajini ‘springs’ to life at 60
Superstar Rajinikanth could not have given his fans a bigger surprise on his 60th birthday. Instead of stepping into politics, the icon of Kollywood has made a re-entry of sorts in the hospitality industry.

A group of entrepreneurs from Chennai have taken on lease the Arunachala Inn — a property owned by the actor at the Kodambakkam High Road and transformed it into a swanky designer hotel called The Spring.

The highlight of the hotel is its cinematic ode to Rajinikanth — replete with a themed coffee shop and co-ordinated uniforms aimed at evoking a sense of nostalgia — courtesy brand Rajini.

R Anand Krishnan, one of the directors of the luxury hotel and the son of Mr Ravi (of the Vasantha Bhavan group) affirms that the hotel was designed around what the actor’s fans love.

Elaborating on the Rajini-centric design that went into the creation of many parts of the hotel, he says, “The coffee shop Caffeine would be a treat for Rajini fans as the walls here are lined with 24 hand-painted black and white portraits of the superstar created by the artist Santhanam.”
That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Sticking to the mantra popularised by Rajini’s punch dialogues like Yen vazhi, thani Vazhi (‘my way is a unique way’), Anand adds, “The icing on the cake is that the waiters, in true Rajini style from his Annamalai days, are dressed in a black shirt and pants combo, replete with a silver-satin band tied around their waists. It’s what we call the total Rajini experience.

In fact, the Chennai based designer Satkrit Krishna, a self-confessed hardcore Rajini fan was roped in to design the uniforms for the coffee shop. Talking about his inspiration and his role model, Satkrit says, “I personally have been a fan of the superstar since my childhood days and it was one of the things that drew me to this project. My reference points were the films Muthu and Annamalai, in both of which he sports a thundu, tied around his waist. We gave it a chic makeover with a satin sash (in this case a waistband) to complete the attire.”

Tamil Super Star Rajinikanth, who is all set to celebrate his 60th birthday on Saturday, watched director Balki’s much-acclaimed Bollywood film Paa on Wednesday evening along with his wife Lata and two daughters Aishwarya and Soundarya in a special screening at Four Frames preview theatre in Chennai.
