Kamal, Rajini win Tamil Nadu State award
It is not everyday when two of Tamil film industry's biggest stars share a stage. However, the Tamil Nadu Government film awards ceremony saw Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan make a rare appearance together. While Rajinikanth walked away with the Best Actor honour for his performance in the blockbuster Sivaji, Haasan won the same award for 2008 for Dasavathaaram.
The Chief Minister M Karunanidhi himself won the Best Dialogue Writer honour for the film Uliyin Osai.
"This was a special award for us. Especially when the Kalaignar was receiving the award, we were fortunate to be there and present it to him. It was a moment which we could stake claim to in history. I thank the director and producer of Dasavathaaram who gave me this opportunity to take part in the award function," said Haasan.
"It has been 35 years since I came into the film industry. It has been 32 years since I became a hero. I thank my friends in the Tamil film industry friends who still cast me as a hero despite me having completed 32 years as a hero already and my heartiest thanks to the people ofTamil Nadu who watch my films and encourage me," says Rajinikanth.
Meanwhile, actor Sneha won the Best Actress Award for Pallikoodam for the year 2008 and Jyothika for 2007's Mozhi.
And this meant double joy for Suriya who also picked up an award for his performance in Vaaranam Aayiram. "This is my fourth government award and state award and it always puts you in the right path – the correct successes and the correct recognition like this puts you in the right path and I'll always be grateful and try to get addicted to this," says Suriya.
Though top stars like Ajith, Vijay, Vikram, Dhanush and most of the top heroines gave it a miss, the awards night was a big success for the audience.
