Functioning of nationalised banks affected in Tamil Nadu
Functioning of nationalised banks in Tamil Nadu was crippled following a day-long strike called by various bank unions to condemn the government's proposed merger move and consolidation of public sector banks.

The day-long strike call was given by the major unions, including the All India Bank Employees’ Association (AIBEA) and the All India Bank Officers’ Association (AIBOA).
About 4.5 lakh bank employees of the public sector and some private sector banks across the country were on a strike.
The bank employees also staged a demonstration denouncing the Centre's move to merge the banks.
