Demand to bifurcate Tamil Nadu raised again
Following the Union Government announcement of the formation of the Telengana state, the demand to bifurcate Tamil Nadu into north and south for “better administrative purposes’’ gained momentum. The leaders of the Federation of North Tamil Nadu and Southern state - A K Natarajan and N Sethuraman - demanded bifurcation along the Cauvery River into North (with Chennai as capital) and South (with Madurai as captial), here on Thursday.Sethuraman said that the demands for development of the southern districts are often ignored. “Most industries are concentrated in and around Chennai. The 18 southern districts are drought-prone and the people are poverty-stricken. The government has never looked into their problems seriously,’’ he said, adding that a campaign would be launched to create awareness about the demand.
