It's a mall world after all

Be it a slow-moving Sunday, or one of those after work spend time with sessions, shopping for that attractive pink dress or that footwear you eyed your colleague wearing, contagious up with a friend over a cup of coffee, window shopping or just aimlessly wander around - malls give the impression to be the best place to head to, what with the whole thing available under one roof.

But the only disappointment is when there aren't sufficient malls and you have to repeat the same old places time and again.

While Spencer's Plaza and City Centre happened to Chennai, the other malls have been 'near-dead'. Most of the people have confessed spent hours jointly at these two places for the reason that of lack of choice. But, now there's glad news for all obsessive shoppers - Chennai is coming up with at least 17 more multi-storied malls and shopping centers.

According to Ramesh Nair, Managing Director, Chennai, of global property consultancy firm Jones Lang LaSalle Meghraj: "approximately 17 new malls totaling 8.5 million square feet are estimated to be prepared in the next three-and-a-half years. The majority of these malls are situated in the CBD, Old Mahabalipuram Road, GST Road and Velachery."
