In Malaysia the month of April is very important to indicate the celebration of Tamil New Year for many communities in the country. The first day of Chaitra Maasam on April 7th - Ugadi is celebrated by Malaysian Telugus which is noticeable with prayers and the enjoyment of different special delicacies, particularly the Yugaadi Pachchadi.
The Tamilians greet the Tamil New Year on Sunday. Puthandu or Tamil New Year that celebrated on April 13 or 14, is extensively celebrated in the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in South India. The festival notices the first day of the Hindu calendar, greeting the month of Chittrai. Most of the families start the day with prayers in Hindu temples or home to welcoming the New Year, wearing new clothes and treating the favorite sweets.
