Tamil Film Industry to Make Fast on Jan 8

Tamilnadu News: Among rising tensions in Mullaiperiyar Dam, the Tamil film industry would observe a day-long fast on January eight to express its solidarity with the Tamil Nadu Government on the raging Mulla Periyar Dam row with Kerala, which has heightened tensions between the two states.

The proposed fast, to be held at a village in Theni District in the close proximity to the contentious dam, comes in the wake of protests by Malayalam film personalities in support of the Kerala Government’s claim that the Mulla Periyar Dam was not safe. According to reports, the fast would be led by Tamil Film Directors Association President Bharathiraaja in which all the members of the association were expected to participate.

Film Industry sources said the Association would arrange vehicles to ferry its members from the city and other parts of the State to the fasting venue.

This is an appropriate time to show our support to the State government on this emotional issue”, the sources said, adding, the support of other associations of the Tamil cinema were solicited.
