Anna centenary Library converts into hospital
Tamilnadu News: Anna Centenary Library, which was the largest library in South Asia, located in Kotturpuram Chennai Established on September 15, 2010, built by the previous DMK Government, converted into Children’s Hospital of Super specialties in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa said on Tuesday. The library moved to the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) complex with park integrated knowledge is expected.
Jayalalithaa said the proposed pediatric hospital will be the first of its kind in the country and the state would rank at the top in taking care of the children’s health. The integrated knowledge park would house offices under DPI, training centre, conference halls, sports complex, distance education studio, incubation centre and a modern central library. The decision to set up a pediatric hospital follows the government’s earlier decision to convert the DMK built new legislative building into a super specialty hospital similar to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi.
The Anna Centenary Library with a capacity to house around 1.2 million books was built at an outlay of Rs.170 crore to commemorate the centenary of late chief minister C.N. Annadurai. The eight floor building project was completed in two years time and was inaugurated by the former chief minister M. Karunanidhi and he just leave it to the decision of the self-respect of Tamils and Tamil scholars. I don’t have to say anything, he said, in a cryptic reply, when reporters asked about the ruling AIADMK‘s decision to convert the library into a hospital. Mr Karunanidhi’s worst fears have come true as two days back he had expressed concern about the fate of the sprawling library complex, opened by him to commemorate his political mentor and late Chief Minister Anna’s birth centenary on September 15 last year.
